FOR OUR SISTERS ESCAPING CHILD TRAFFICKING.

Acrylics and marker pen on canvas. 28 x 22 inches.

Forced out of her village by extreme poverty, she entered this underbelly of humanity without a choice.  The tender beauty of her youth made her desirable for many sex tourists and local johns alike. Too many to count. Her shame felt unbearable sometimes. She spent those moments of guilt and hopelessness alone right outside of the suffocating city, gazing into the distance. There beyond the baobab trees was freedom, and kindness, and love. There on the horizon was her peace.

Those days outside of town grew more frequent. “Why not feel this beautiful peace always?” she thought. Her body knew the power of desire to do unspeakable things, and so she gave into the power of her desire for the impossible. She found a local NGO* for child prostitution survivors. She labored hard to reclaim her childhood and heal. She still goes starring at the horizon outside of town sometimes. She spends her moments of freedom and joy gazing into the distance. There beyond the baobab trees are new ideas, amazing dreams, and ambitious goals. There on the horizon and everywhere around and within is her peace.
